Aylesbeare Parish Fete  July 11th 2015 Aylesbeare Parish Fete July 11th 2015

Although a somewhat cooler and breezier day than might be expected in July, the organisers of the Fete, Tansi Ash and Alex Winter, were pleased that the rain kept off to enable stall holders and residents of the Parish to enjoy all the activities provided to raise lots of funds for Parish good causes.

Aylesbeare Flower and Produces how 2015

Yet another successful flower show hosted at the Aylesbeare Village Hall. Big thanks to all who took part, contributed raffle prizes, did the teas, helped set up (and down) and to the overall committee who organised the event. With more people entering than in recent years (46 including 9 under 16s) the hall was alive with colourful flowers, artistic flower arrangements, tasty cookery, a range of artwork and a vast number of vegetables. The class entitled “a gardener's limerick” stimulated imaginations with 11 entries, the winning limericks appear in the October edition of Topics. However, of particular note were the children's entries with decorated eggs, a castle made out of cardboard tubes and a fun limerick about parents.

Jean Foxwell kindly presented the prizes with the Larcombe Cup for the entrant with the largest number of points going to Lucy Rutherford. The under 9s’ Cup was won by Matthew Thomas; the over 9s’ Cup was shared three ways by Fin and Daisy Coppins and Charlotte Hall; the Livermore Cup for craft was won by Margaret Tyler for her well-sewn cushion;
the Webber Cup for the best Flower Arrangement was won by Maureen Lock; the best Flower was submitted by Lucy Rutherford for her agapanthus; the best vegetable was won by Ian Buckland for his onions; the Frazer Cookery Cup for the most cookery points was awarded to Smith with the Perkins Cup for the best photograph going to Fiona French for her interpretation of “Sky.
The raffle plus the auction of produce at the end of the day contributed to a net surplus of £90. This year this is being donated as follows:

£30 to Aylesbeare Topics

£30 to Aylebeare Village Hall

£30 to the Aylesbeare Church Loo fund

Next year’s show will be held on Saturday 3 September 2016. We will be sorting out a schedule at our January meeting and will publish it in Topics as soon as we can. If you have any ideas for classes please email jill@thegardens.me.uk  or phone Kate Williamson on 01395 232895 or Jill Smith on 01395 567541, all suggestions welcome.
