TELEPHONE FRAUD SCAM ON ELDERLY PEOPLE
Elderly residents in our region are being targeted by a national 'telephone fraud scam'. A person claiming to be a police officer or member of your bank's staff will phone and claim that your bank card has been used fraudulently. They may suggest that you call your bank to ensure that the call is genuine. However the phone line remains open to them and the fraudsters will take down your banking details.
You may also be asked to go to your bank and withdraw money to give to a local taxi firm or courier.
If you receive a call of this nature please end the call immediately and inform the police on 101. Remember your bank or a police officer will never come to your home to collect your bank card details and PIN number.
